Jewelry Care
The more often you wear your jewelry, the more radiantly it will shine! Even so, every piece benefits from occasional care to keep it glinting & fresh!
Everyday Care
To help protect your jewelry:
- Remove it before showering, swimming, sleeping, or exercising.
- Take it off before applying lotions, moisturizers, perfumes, or other fragrances.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to heat and moisture
That being said- I wear gold, silver and bronze in all conditions! I just try to dry it off and refresh it every couple months. I love the natural patina that softens all metals, but if you want it to have that mirror finish, get a polishing cloth & give your pieces some love every now and then.
* A Sunshine polishing cloth is my favorite for polishing all my pieces, to reshine and take out slight wear. The yellow one is slightly stronger than the blue! *
Only solid metals are used- no plating is used for any of my pieces
Metals
Solid Gold
I offer 14k & 18k solid gold for most pieces. Just email to inquire if don’t see a piece you’re eyeing listed in gold. Gold’s natural shine and luster can last for many years with minimal maintenance, although occasional cleaning will help keep it looking its best.
When needed, wash your gold jewelry gently with unscented, clear dish soap and a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and dry carefully.
Sterling Silver
My personal favorite metal! Sterling silver is a luminous precious metal designed to last. Regular wear can help maintain its brightness, but exposure to oxygen may cause the metal to tarnish over time.
If you are storing sterling silver for an extended period, place it in an airtight container to reduce exposure to air. Should tarnish appear, gently polish the piece with a jewelry polishing cloth
Bronze
I offer bronze for most pieces that has a beautiful golden tone similar to 14k yellow gold. Both bronze and brass are alloys of copper. The high copper content in brass and bronze can cause it to darken over time. This is primarily due to a reaction to water and humidity. Some people, depending on their personal PH balance, experience a green coloring to the skin when it comes in contact with bronze and brass.
Depending on an individual’s skin chemistry, bronze or brass may also leave a temporary green tint on the skin. This reaction is harmless and is a natural result of the copper content.
To help preserve a brighter finish, keep bronze and brass jewelry as dry as possible. Remove rings before washing your hands, and make sure your hands are completely dry before putting them back on. You may also apply a thin layer of clear nail polish to the inside of a ring to create a barrier between the metal and your skin.
I personally love the muted shine that develops with continuous wear, it’s all personal preference. If tarnishing develops you can use a polishing cloth, a commercial metal polish such as Brasso, or even ketchup! Bronze is incredibly strong and will resist quite a bit of scratching and wear.
Gold Fill
I use gold fill for some chains, earring hoops and findings. Different from gold plating, in gold fill the gold is fused to a base metal. These components can be polished with a sunshine polishing cloth, as well.
